Truman Hoyle has a commitment to providing legal services without charge to those who may not otherwise be able to acquire same themselves and who otherwise meet the approval criteria of our Pro Bono Programme. All of our lawyers are committed to this initiative to assist in ensuring that access to the law, and often to justice, is available.
At Truman Hoyle our policy is to undertake a small number of larger, more resource intensive matters, rather than a large number of smaller matters. These matters are often unpopular, but are always crucial to remedy a significant injustice.
By way of example, in recent years Truman Hoyle lawyers have represented one of Australia’s longest serving detained asylum seekers. The firm represented his interests before a number of courts and tribunals until his release in May 2006, after what was a case of one anonymous and mistaken identification of our client some 7 years before.
In addition, Truman Hoyle is currently assisting Linux Mark Institute in the acquisition of key trade marks and protection of other intellectual property in the Australian market as a test case to assist Linux to provide its open source operating systems around the world to individuals and institutions who may not otherwise be able to acquire proprietary systems.
